Faenza Garofano Collection

This classic pattern owes its history to Marco Polo himself, who supposedly brought it from the Orient to Italy in 1279 (along with the pasta!).

Initially developed in the Italian region of Lombardia, Garofano later evolved as the world-famous “signature-pattern” from Faenza, "The City of Ceramics".

No other ceramics-producing city has kept its stoves alight since the ancient Middle Ages, and in the French version of the name, “Faience” implies a very prestigious type of ceramics.

Faenza lies 30 miles south of Bologna in the north east part of Italy, and is also an important agricultural and industrial center.

About Ceramic Dinnerware

Not Safe for Microwave or Conventional Oven Use
Avoid High Temperatures: Due to its characteristic thickness and earthenware porosity, ceramic dinnerware may be damaged by exposure to extremely hot temperatures.
Our dinnerware products are “Serving” pieces and they are NOT meant to be used for cooking or re-heating.

Protect Against Chips and Cracks
Majolica is low-fired earthenware and chips more easily than china dinnerware.
Careful hand wash is recommended.
Electric dish-washing may be used and, if available, set your dishwasher to a "low-energy/cool-dry" cycle.
Always load your ceramic dinnerware far apart to avoid touching each other during the high pressure dish-washing, since such impact can easily chip the items.

Characteristics of Majolica and low fired Ceramics
With repeated use, Majolica has a tendency to "craze" (forming minuscule lines in the glazing). This crazing is the nature of Majolica, and has no significant effect on the ceramic item.
Because each Artistica’s piece is individually crafted, you may notice slight variations in color and size and occasionally, paint smudges, fingerprints and looseness of lids.
These variances should not be considered as imperfections, but as evidence of fine, hand-crafted work.

All our dinnerware collections are Dishwasher Safe as well as 100% Food Safe, and are regularly inspected and tested for compliance with FDA standards.
