ROBBIANA MASKS OF PROSPERITY Collection: Our Robbiana masks are reproduction of original hand-carved artworks from the 15th century. Unlike most others, our masks are NOT made from an industrial mold but instead full hand made, with fruits and leaves individually crafted and manually applied and painstakingly hand painted in the classic technique originated by the Della Robbia Florentine dynasty, a family of sculptors and ceramists active from the 15th to the 16th century.
As common practice in the medieval era, ceramic masks were hung by the vineyard or farmhouse to protect the harvest, a tradition still carried on these days by Italian farmers.

The distinctive mastery of Della Robbia sculptors raised Italian majolica works from craft to high art, mostly for the application of their sculptural skills to hand molded clay. Della Robbia created a style and technique that still today carries a unique charm. They are also recognized for their invention of glazed terracotta.
